| The SDSC Urgent Response (SURGE) group conducts research related to Emergency Preparedness Response and Mitigation. SURGE activities include the NSF funded research project to explore the development specifications for the cyberinfrastructure necessary for dealing with massive displacement of people during emergencies. This includes providing relief workers with appropriate IT systems to enable better recording of information at the point of data collection in the field, as well as developing flexible and scalable “back office” systems that can be adapted to a particular emergency situation, or as events unfold with time in a given situation. |
